Kink Cares!

This Noir, Saturday January 15th we will be collecting blankets for the Kink Cares Blanket Drive, and holding a 50/50 draw to raise money to purchase blankets.

This year is expected to be the coldest winter in Vancouver in over 50 years, and so Scott Peters (aka Stigmata) is resurrecting an event he’s run in years past, collecting blankets for the Homeless!

This year he’s reaching out to the Kink Community and asking that you donate new or used blankets that will then be distributed directly to the Homeless on the streets of Vancouver.

Ideal blankets are synthetic ones, as they maintain their insulating properties when wet, meaning they stay warm. Wool blankets are okay, but prohibitively expensive. If you’ve got one lying around the house we’d gladly accept it.

As these are for people living outdoors we will ONLY be able to use sythetic blankets or wool blankets. Other natural fibers do not maintain their warmth when wet and actually can do more harm as you will get colder, not warmer, under a wet cotton blanket.

If you wish to purchase a new blanket to donate, you will find suitable ones at Army and Navy in the linens section for only $5.99. (They’re labelled as Camping Blankets.) You WILL NOT find them in the Camping section.

Army and Navy has locations in Vancouver, New Westminster and Langley. You can get a map of the locations by visiting their store locator webpage here: http://www.armyandnavy.ca/locator_index.cfm

Wal Mart will certainly have suitable and low priced blankets, although we do not have prices for them.

Scott regularly purchases blankets for distribution. If you would like to make a cash donation to purchase blankets, as you do not have the time to do so yourself, you can contact Scott at ScottPeters2010@hotmail.com

Thank you to The PumpJack for being our permanent drop off point throughout December!

A very special thanks goes out to Sin City for helping us with the blanket drive and accepting donations and doing a 50/50 draw as well. You guys rock!

Please note that the PumpJack and Sin City are no longer accepting blanket donations.

However, We’re happy to announce that Gym Domina has offered to pick up the slack so that there will still be a permanent drop off point for The Kink Cares Blanket Drive. If you couldn’t make it out to Sin City last weekend, and you can’t make it to Noir this coming one, but you still want to donate a blanket to the cause, you should drop by Gym Domina’s Forge Studio, Vancouver’s only private gym, at 323 Cambie Street, located down the stairs next to Deadly Couture, and across the street from the Cambie Pub.

Plus Gym Domina has donated an hour of personal training to be given out to the winner of the 50/50 draw being held at this Saturday’s Noir Fetish Ball. Your contribution to a good cause gives you a chance to literally be whipped into better shape!

All blankets will be distributed directly to homeless people on the streets of Vancouver courtesy of The Lookout Shelter. While this drive started during the holidays it is continuing into January, a time when so many charitable endeavours are forgotten after the season of giving is over.

Thank you to everyone for your support from all of us at Noir!
